Intersectional Feminist Therapy

Intersectional Feminist Therapy is a strengths-based approach that involves a close and careful analysis of how gender and other identities (socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, age, skin color, ability status, religion, culture, etc.) impact your physical, psychological and emotional wellness. Lived experiences and research shows that a person will face more violence, trauma, and self-worth struggles the more oppressed identities they hold and live with in society.

Feminist therapy views the political and personal as being intertwined and sees social equity as essential to mental health. In feminist therapy, as your therapist I will work to level the traditional power dynamics in our relationship and I view you as a collaborator in the therapeutic process, an expert on your own experience. With an environment of safety and equality within the our relationship, you and I will work together to identify and dismantle the internalizations of the patriarchal system i.e. the beliefs you end up holding to be true about yourself because of the patriarchy.

The key tenets of feminist therapy are: collaboration, authenticity, inclusion, personal power, anti-racism, and social justice.

This approach is for people of any gender who desire to be heard and understood, reclaim a sense of personal power, and take an active, collaborative role in their own healing and growth process.
